In recognition of his support for a wide range of charitable causes, achievements and efforts, especially those related to improving quality of education across his domain, the old students of Saint Charles Grammar School in Oṣogbo have named a recently completed classroom block in their alma mater after Rep Olubukola Oyewo.
Renowned for his commitment towards enhancing the state of infrastructure in public schools within his territory, Hon. Olubukola Oyewo, who represents Oṣogbo Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, was accorded this recognition by Saint Charles Old Boys Association (SCOBA) for facilitating the construction of the building named after him.
Rep. Oyewo, who is also an ex-student of Saint Charles, has for several years now contributed immensely towards the advancement of the foremost citadel of learning.
In a letter addressed to the parliamentarian on 30th May 2022 and jointly signed by the President and General Secretary of SCOBA, the association stated that, "It is indeed our privilege to inform you that the building will on Friday, June 3, 2022- our Founders' Day, be named in your honor as 'Charlean(Hon) Bukola Oyewo Block', as a token of our Association's appreciation of your good deeds".
Reacting to the gesture, Hon. Oyewo expressed his appreciation to SCOBA for bestowing him with this honor on account of his achievements in the education sector.
In a statement issued by the lawmaker's Media and Communication Office, Rep Oyewo noted that this action of the alumni is not only encouraging, but also heartwarming.
The federal legislator leveraged the moment to clear the air on a recent allegation claiming that he superintended over the construction of a substandard six-classroom block in his alma mater.
According to him, “I only attracted the project to my Constituency. Lawmaker's do not award nor execute constituency projects. If there are any observations regarding the construction work, the federal government agency empowered by law to implement and supervise the project, as well as the contractor who executed the job, are in the best position to make clarifications," the lawmaker noted.
The APC chieftain concluded his statement by assuring concerned constituents that all issues relating to the newly constructed classroom block at Saint Charles are currently being addressed, as the government agency and contractor involved in the implementation of the project have been contacted by his office.
