The Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Water Resources has sympathised with the government and people of the State of Osun over the fire incident that gutted some shops in Nigeria Postal Service Shopping Complex in the ancient town of Osogbo.
Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed by fire on Saturday, 17th of October, 2020. The fire which affected the shopping Complex started around 6pm on Saturday evening.
In a statement released by his media office, the lawmaker said he was shocked by the incident.
Oyewo expressed regret over the late evening fire outbreak that claimed the means of livelihood of many traders.
While sympathising with the traders, Hon. Oyewo said, “It is with heavy heart that I received the news of the fire outbreak that gutted some shops in the Nigeria Postal Service Shopping Complex in Osogbo.
"This is a collective loss, not only to the affected traders, their families, the Government and good people of Osun State but also to the nation as a whole."
"I commiserate with the victims of the fire for the disruption of their economic activities as a result of the unfortunate incident.
"I also empathize with Government of the State of Osun, and the Ataoja of Osogbo, HRH, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji over the unfortunate incident.
“I want to appeal to the people to remain calm and law abiding as the government of the state looks into the situation with a view to bringing succour to the victims", the lawmaker said
