Nigeria's Diamond Anniversary: Oyewo congratulates Constituents, Nigerians

The Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Water Resources, Hon. Olubukola Oyewo has felicitated with his constituents and people of Nigeria on the Nation’s 60th Independence Anniversary.

The lawmaker who represents Irepodun/Olorunda/Orolu/Osogbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives also described the occasion as another opportunity for Nigerians to come together and re-dedicate themselves to building one united Nation.

According to the lawmaker, in a statement in Osogbo on Thursday, he said Nigeria deserves to roll out the drums and celebrate with pump and pageantry as she marks another year of her existence as an independent state, especially diamond jubilee anniversary.

Bukoy, as fondly called said, despite the present challenges, Nigerians should be cheerful, adding that the current problems should strengthen our collective resolve to march on until we get to our desired destination.

The parliamentarian who recalled the euphoria which pervaded the entire country in 1960 when the union flag was lowered for the Nigerian flag to be hoisted stressed that the events of six decades ago saw the entire Nigerian masses collectively heeding the call for freedom. He also expressed delight that not minding the National challenges, we have continued to move forward in unity and progress.

"I felicitate with my constituents, the government at all levels and people of Nigeria on the nation’s Independence celebration. I believe that a major reason for joy is the resilience of Nigerians to weather the storm and remain one united country notwithstanding continual threats to its cohesion”.

"I urge us all to look beyond current developmental and economic challenges, and to make utmost use of Nigeria's rich human and natural endowments."

He said the progress made in different spheres over the years is an indication of the collective resolve of Nigerians to surmount any challenge facing the nation.

While suing for calm in all troubled parts of the country, Hon. Oyewo advocated caution on the part of those calling for fractionalisation of the country, warning that such step would undermine the sacrifice of the great nationalists who fought for and secured the country's independence, sabotage the significant progress and monumental developments of the past 60 years of the country's existence and destroy the spirit of love and nationhood which has bound Nigerians together since the precolonial era.

The federal lawmaker also implored all Nigerians across all divides to shun all devisive tendencies, renew their spirit of nationhood and see Nigeria's diamond celebration as a call to revive the country from the ruins of the past.
